Shrimp diseases often arise from pathogens and poor environmental conditions like unsanitary water. Sodium and calcium hypochlorites are commonly used in aquaculture to disinfect hatcheries and ponds. They release hypochlorous acid, a powerful germicide, and are most effective in acidic conditions.
For instance, hypochlorite’s bactericidal effect is 10 times stronger at pH 6 than at pH 9, with a 0.1-0.25 ppm solution killing most organisms within 15-20 seconds at pH 7.Sodium hypochlorite purifies water by eliminating bacteria, viruses, and parasites through chlorination. It is widely used in aquaculture ponds, municipal water systems, and swimming pools to ensure water safety.
It can also be used to remove things such as dissolved iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide from the water. These are substances that give the water an unpleasant taste and odor; they can also stain clothing and fixtures. It also controls algae and other organic growth in reservoirs, aqua ponds, water tanks, and other water storage facilities.
